“She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain” is an easy song to sing, featuring plenty of repetition and fun lyrics. Older people will remember singing this one when they were younger, and children who haven’t heard it will learn it quickly.

The song has many variations, but I found several verses are especially fun to sing. “She’ll be wearing red pajamas” is simply a phrase to put a smile on your face. Plus, anyone singing along who happens to be wearing red will certainly get a kick out of it. When I have sung this verse for groups at memory care facilities, I have had ladies point to their own red shirts and say “that’s me!”

My mother-in-law, Trish, always enjoyed singing “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain.” When our family gathered to celebrate her 80th birthday, we had a little impromptu singalong as we sat around the living room visiting. We sang a few verses, and Trish interjected a few “woohoos” between lines. That is a cherished memory for our family and an example of how we have faced Alzheimer’s with songs, smiles, and joy.
